And what if America, the gold-standard of democracy, had immediately acknowledged Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel - Lies, deception, myths and Obama hostility towards Israel - YJ Draiman

And what if America, the gold-standard of democracy, had immediately acknowledged Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel, which it had consistently been for over 30 centuries; although sometimes occupied by foreign powers, except for a brief interlude between 1948-1967, when the individual European nations (who had previously turned their back on their Jewish citizens), and the UN, chose to ignore all morals and ethics to tolerate the capture of Jerusalem by Trans-Jordan?

Unless the forces of terror supported by
Iran can succeed pushing Israel into the Mediterranean Sea, Jerusalem is the inviolate capitol of the State of Israel. If America and the European nations (pre-EU) had the guts to recognize reality back in 1967, just as they did when the Berlin Wall fell and Berlin re-established in 1991 as the capitol, this would not even be, an issue murmured. As such, perhaps we could have then avoided the pointless Yom Kippur War of 1973, vast terrorism attacks against Israel, the rise of Iran sponsored terrorism, and the encouragement of the region's pretenders--the Arab PLO--who did nothing but stir dissent in Jordan and Lebanon?

Just as we will now finally confront the fallacies of the failed
Iran nuclear treaty through a realistic vision of our incoming administration, so shall America belatedly throw-off the shackles of a prior failed foreign policy and embrace it’s only consistently true ally in the Middle East, Israel, by recognizing its capitol of Jerusalem. Recognizing the perpetual weakness of the EU, we can only expect them to fall in line, as they discreetly seek assistance form Israel to confront the terrorism they have welcomed within their borders.

Trump will finally overcome the bias of the Church, UN, EU, and our own bi-coastal elites that have continued to be a blemish on the so-called ethics and morals of this world. Just like
England in 1940, Israel is our only bastion of democracy in a neighborhood whose stability has only deteriorated over the past eight years. Israel’s 1st Prime Minister Defiance of US pressure in 1948-49.

Upon the 40th anniversary of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion's death, Israeli and American policy-makers should study the 1948 legacy of Israel's Founding Father: Defiance of disproportionate U.S. pressure forged Israel into a national security producer rather than a national security consumer, catapulted the Jewish state into the most productive U.S. strategic ally, enhanced the long-term U.S.-Israel mutually beneficial ties (following short-term tension), and advanced the national security of both the U.S. and Israel.

On May 29, 1949, toward the end of Israel's War of Independence, which consumed 6,000 Israeli lives (1 percent of the population!), the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, James McDonald, delivered a scolding message from President Harry Truman to Prime Minister Ben-Gurion. According to McDonald, Truman "interpreted Israel's attitude [rejecting the land-for-peace principle; annexing West Jerusalem; refusing to absorb Arab refugees; pro-actively soliciting a massive Jewish in-gathering] as dangerous to peace and as indicating disregard of the U.N. General Assembly non-binding resolutions of November 29, 1947 [the proposed partition plan] and December 11, 1948 [refugees and internationalization of Jerusalem], reaffirming insistence that territorial compensation should be made [by Israel] for territory taken in excess of November 29 [40% beyond the partition plan!], and that tangible refugee concessions should be made [by Israel] now as essential, preliminary to any prospect for general settlement. The operative part of the note was the implied threat that the U.S. would reconsider its attitude toward Israel," ("My Mission in Israel 1948-1951," James McDonald).
Ben-Gurion's response -- with a population of 680,000 Jews, a $1 billion gross domestic product and a slim military force in 1949, compared with today’s 6.3 million Jews, a $280 billion GDP and one of the world's finest military forces in 2013 -- was resolute, as described by McDonald: "[Truman's] note was unrealistic and unjust. It ignored the facts that the partition non-binding resolution was no longer applicable since its basic conditions had been destroyed by Arab aggression which the Jews successfully resisted and defended themselves. ... To whom should we turn if
Israel were again attacked? Would the U.S. send arms or troops? The United States is a powerful country; Israel is a small and a weak one. We can be crushed, but we will not commit suicide."
McDonald further wrote: "Two U.N. Security Council non-binding resolutions passed [with
U.S. support] have implicitly threatened sanctions if Israeli troops were not withdrawn [from the 'occupied Negev']." Ben-Gurion reacted defiantly: "Israel has been attacked by six Arab States. As a small country, Israel must reserve the right of self-defense even if it goes down fighting. ... As Ben-Gurion once put it to me, 'What Israel has won on the battlefield; it is determined not to yield at the [U.N. Security] Council table.'"
As a result of Ben-Gurion's determined stance, "there was apparently indecision and much heart-searching in Washington.... Our [responding] note abandoned completely the stern tone of its predecessor. ... Fists and knuckles were un-clenched. ... The crisis was past. The next few months marked a steady retreat from the intransigence of the United States' May note. ... Washington ceased to lay down the law to Tel Aviv."
On the eve of the declaration of independence, General George Marshall, Second World War hero and Secretary of State, who was then the most charismatic office-holder in the
U.S., sent Ben-Gurion a brutal ultimatum, demanding the postponement of the declaration of independence and acceptance of a U.N. Trusteeship. Marshall, along with Secretary of Defense, James Forrestal, the CIA and the top Foggy Bottom bureaucrats imposed a regional military embargo, while Britain supplied arms to Egypt, Jordan and Iraq. They contended that a declaration of independence would turn the oil-producing Arab countries against the U.S., at a time when the threat of a Third World War (USSR vs. U.S.) was hovering, which could force the U.S. to fight an oil-starved war. They threatened that Ben-Gurion's unilateral declaration of independence in 1948 would trigger a war, which could doom the Jewish people to a second Holocaust in less than ten years, since the U.S. would not provide any assistance to the Jewish state. They contemplated an expanded embargo -- unilaterally or multilaterally -- should Ben-Gurion ignore the ultimatum.
Ben-Gurion did not blink. McDonald wrote that "[Ben-Gurion] added that much as
Israel desired friendship with the U.S., there were limits beyond which it could not go. ... Ben-Gurion warned President Truman and the Department of State, through me, that they would be gravely mistaken if they assumed that the threat, or even the use of U.N. sanctions, would force Israel to yield on issues considered vital to its independence and security. ... [He] left no doubt that he was determined to resist, at whatever cost, 'unjust and impossible demands.' On these he could not compromise."
Ben-Gurion's tenacity was vindicated when
Israel was admitted to the U.N., despite its rejection of the land-for-peace, Jerusalem and refugees demands, "evidence of the growth of respect for Israel," McDonald wrote. Moreover, Eisenhower's Secretary of State John Foster Dulles, who was a delegate to the U.N. in 1949, admitted that the partition plan and the anti-Israel "Bernadotte U.N. plan" were not adequate and that the U.S. underestimated the Jewish muscle and determination. General Omar Bradley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, proposed to consider Israel as a major ally of the U.S.
Ben-Gurion was aware that fending off pressure constituted an integral part of Jewish history, a prerequisite for survival and long-term growth, militarily, diplomatically and economically. On the other hand, succumbing to pressure intensifies further pressure, threatening to transform
Israel from a unique strategic asset to a liability. On a rainy day, the U.S. would rather have a defiant -- and not a vacillating -- ally.

I would have preferred if you recommended the word "Proactive" as a replacement for "Deterrence." by Israel
Israelis and Un-assimilated Diaspora Jews who love or care about Israel need to have a Strategy (in the Henry Kissinger sense) which isn't simply Reactive or Defensive. That isn't embedded in the concept of Deference which suggests the defensive practice of getting the enemy not to do something.
Being Proactive on the other hand would require Israel and the United States to propose a solution to the Arab-Palestinian Refugee status - Israel should demand that Arab-Palestinians who do not or cannot live in Palestine aka The Land of Israel or Israel be granted the right to Immigrate to the former Greater Syria, or the rest of Asian and North African countries, not least of which is Saudi Arabia or to the homes and over 120,000 sq. km. of property the Arabs confiscated from the over a million Jewish families they expelled from the Arab countries.
. The special refugee status accorded the Arab-Palestinian Refugees by the United Nations should be abolished or amended. Arab-Palestinian textbooks for children in the Disputed Territories should be examined, edited, and expunged of Antisemitism and hatred and delegitimization of Israel.
Israel, Russia (under Putin), and the United States (under Trump) should come to a military understanding and force Hezbollah and Iran to demilitarized the vicinity of Israel's border to the North where there are currently, allegedly, 100,000 rockets controlled by Hezbollah and aimed at Israel's civilian populations.
I understand that Russia has assumed the Number One Energy Producing State of the world and that OPEC, under the leadership of Saudi Arabia, no longer dominates that market. In addition, the United States has made Shale Oil production efficient and cost effective, so that we are less dependent on our Arab or Asian sources of fuel for our industries. That should enable the United States to put particular pressure on Arab and Muslim majority countries to establish diplomatic relations with Israel independent of the wimps of the Arab-Palestinians in the West Bank aka Judea and Samaria or the Gaza Strip.
Israel, I propose should propose to recognize Gaza as the Arab-Palestinian State. The fact that Gaza and its Hamas are recognized by Turkey under Prime Minister Erdogan can put the International Community under the awkward predicament that Israel has recognized Reality - that there already exists an Arab-Palestinian state, in Gaza and Jordan, but that state insists on war against Israel. Israel (and Jews) needs a Prussian such as Bismarck who would understand such a strategy. Israel, I propose, brakes off relations with the Arab-PLO and recognize the reality of Hamas in Gaza. That would put the Arab-Palestinians, as well as the United Nations, in a defensive and reactive mode. This is precisely an example of being Proactive. It requires what Jews, in Yiddish, call Chutzpah.

Of course, there also is the issue, which you treat quite gently, of President-Elect moving the Embassy of the United States to Jerusalem very quickly after he assumes his office of President after January 20, 2017. Isn't that going to be a part dramatic of the Arab Spring turning into a Muslim Hell?

Lies, deception, myths and Obama hostility towards Israel
A lie is like a noxious and perennial weed that is almost impossible to root out. So it is a grand weed, the delusion and myth of an Arab people who call themselves Arab-Palestinians. Their delusion is of their fictitious past living in a land that supposedly belonged to them for millennia with their capital, Jerusalem.
This delusion stems from the same fertile magical Arab imagination that gave us The Thousand and One Arabian Nights replete with fantastic tales of magic, wizards and Ali Baba. Both, the claim of a distinct Arab people called Arab-Palestinians and the Thousand and One Nights are an equal delusion and fantasy in the Arab mind.

As a matter of Historical fact the Arabs residing in Greater Israel today are: Arabs from Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Libya, and Sudan, etc.
The truth – not the delusion and fantasy – is that there was never an independent, sovereign Arab state called Palestine. Jerusalem was never the capital of any Arab polity in all of recorded history. Only one people has ever made Jerusalem its capital with two Jewish temples, and only one people ever established their ancestral and biblical homeland from east of the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea: the remaining indigenous Jewish people for over 3,000 years.

In the years before Israel was internationally reconstituted in 1920 and assumed its sovereignty in May 1948, the world referred to its Jewish residents as Palestinians. Indeed, the Palestinian military units fighting with the British Army in World War Two were Jewish to every man and woman. Few, if any, Arabs or Muslims fought against the Axis powers during that war and indeed many served in SS units; often willing collaborators with the Germans in murdering Jewish communities in the Balkans and elsewhere.  Why such Arab “collaborators” (including the Mufti of Jerusalem Haj Amin al-Husseini), were never prosecuted for war crimes is still an unanswered mystery.

History and factual documents proves the word Palestine was established by the Romans to anger the Jews and Jerusalem was renamed Aelia Capitolina. It was then carried forward and used during the Mandate for Palestine over the territory that was agreed by the Supreme Allied Powers in 1920 San Remo Conference and implemented by the League of Nations in 1920.  The very Mandate which made Great Britain trustee for the Jewish people with the express international legal obligation of establishing in Palestine the historical Jewish homeland. At that time, the Palestine Mandate covered all of what is Israel - including Judea and Samaria, or what is erroneously called the West BankGaza, Golan and present day Jordan.

What so many in the biased media forget, if they ever knew, is that the Ottoman Empire was dismantled by the victorious Allies, France and Britain, at the end of World War One. At that time, many new Arab states were created on over 21 million sq. km. of territory, with Palestine aka The Land of Israel reserved for a Jewish homeland under international treaties executed by the Supreme Allied Powers and the Faisal Weizmann Agreement in January 1919.
However, Britain violated the international treaties and reneged on its duty and obligation to the Jews and tore away four fifths of the Mandate for Palestine Jewish territory in 1922 and arbitrarily gave all the land east of the Jordan River away to the Arab Hashemite Bedouin tribe as the new Arab State for the Arabs. Immediately, Jews were forbidden to live in what became Trans-Jordan, all their assets confiscated and eventually became the Arab Kingdom of Jordan in 1946: An early example of ethnic cleansing and blatant Arab apartheid.
The borders of the Mandate for Palestine as eventually set although in violation of international agreements, determined the Arab State of Jordan as east of the Jordan River, and granted Israel all the land west of the Jordan River including Jerusalem, Golan and Gaza.

The January 1919 Faisal-Weizmann agreement confirms those terms which irrefutably state that all of Palestine is for the Jewish people.
Interestingly, Arabs and their leaders had rejected any notion of a separate Arab Palestinian identity. For them, the Palestine region was merely a part of Greater Syria and the Arabs were indistinct from their neighbors. Indeed, the Syrian dictator, Assad, still plots for the return of Jordan, Israel and the disputed territories.
As far as Palestine aka The Land of Israel was concerned for those Arab absentee landlords of the early years of the 20th century, living in Cairo, Damascus and Beirut, the land was worthless: barren and malarial infested.
Then the Jewish pioneers returning in the late 19th century began to purchase the wasted and barren land at exorbitant prices, drain the swamps and redeem again the ancestral ancient beloved Jewish homeland.  Through Jewish blood, toil, sweat and tears the old neglected and desolate land was developed and again restored to former productivity of green pastures. Ironically, the once again developed land brought into the territory hundreds of thousands of illegal Arab aliens who found livelihoods that were unavailable in the stagnant and corrupt neighboring Arab societies.
The British authorities invariably turned a blind eye to the flood of illegal Arab immigrants; (wishing to control Arab oil reserves) seeing in them as a stick to beat the Jewish residents with. Herein lays the genesis of the present day Arab false claim to all the land and their descendant’s stated threat to extirpate any and all Jewish life within its borders.

So many well-meaning people in the West, as well as latent anti-Semites, have fallen hook, line and sinker for the myth and delusion of an Arab-Palestinian homeland called Palestine. So many people now believe the delusion, fantasy and false claim by the well-funded Arab propaganda machine that the Jews came and stole it, without checking the historical facts.
Though said delusional claim sounds affecting and no doubt to the liberal mind particularly emotional with all the tugging of the heart strings that it implies, it is still an absolute lie and deception just like the weed that can never be fully uprooted.

For so many people who are either ignorant, turn a deaf ear or are hard hearted towards the Jewish state, they are unaware and or refuse to believe that the Jews were the remaining indigenous inhabitants of Israel for over two millennia.   Furthermore, such indigenous in-habitation was well before the Muslim religion was created, and before Muslim armies swarmed out of Arabia with a Koran in one hand and a sword in the other to occupy vast territories in the name of Allah.
The pity is that there are numerous historical documents, archaeological proof and biblical history for all to read. Yet, for some incomprehensible reason, written and factual history is ignored in favor of embracing delusions, deception and lies.
The Arabs have spread over 12 million square kilometers in the Middle East and into North Africa (the Maghreb) with a wealth of oil reserves. Israel’s territory which was suppose to be 120,000 sq. km. is barely 21,000 square kilometers and may soon be reduced further if its biblical ancestral heartland of Judea and Samaria is torn from it to create in its midst a terror state called Arab Palestine: the 23rd Arab state (just like Gaza).

The world needs to acknowledge the Arab countries expulsion of over a million Jewish families refugees mentioned above who were persecuted, terrorized and expelled, with all their assets confiscated, personal valuables, businesses, homes and over 120,000 sq. km. of Jewish owned Real Estate for over 2,400 years (valued today in the trillions of dollars) in the Arab lands over the past 70 years. The world needs to also extend to said Jewish refugees the same sympathetic obsession they extend to the Arabs; the very Arabs who needlessly left Israel at the urging of the corrupt Arab League and the six attacking Arab armies.  When Arab-Palestinians stop indoctrinating their children and the masses to commit terror and violence, then there may be hope for a better international community than what exists at the present time.

At the same time the world needs to condemn Jordan for confiscating Jewish territory and assets, and barring Jews over 80 years ago from living in what was the Palestine Mandate territory east of the Jordan River.  Furthermore, the world needs to condemn the so-called Arab-Palestinian Authority from barring Jews within its territory now. Also, the world needs to condemn the indoctrination of children and the masses by the Arab PA to commit terror and violence, and glorify suicide bombers.  Only after such rightful condemnation by the world will there be equal hope for a redeemed international community.

Meanwhile the Jews – the real authentic indigenous Palestinians – strive to live within the minuscule territory that is the Jewish state. They will continue to exist even as they are denied even one day of peace from their genocidal Arab and Muslim neighbors.  Finally, the Jews of Israel now have to also survive the efforts by the American president, Barack Hussein Obama, who seems unwilling to rest until Israel crumbles under his malevolent gaze and swaggering intimidation.
We hope the new American administration will recognize and implement its own agreements and promises to Israel, since post WWI.
YJ Draiman.
